Greater Yellowlegs
Tringa melanoleuca
Synopsis:
No nests were found during the atlas project period, but a mid-
June record from near Toketee Lake is notable. The
species bred for at least four seasons between 1980 and 1992 at Downy Lake
(Wallowa County) for the first breeding record south
of Canada.
Habitat Associations:
Unknown.
Relative Detectability:
Easily spotted, but historic nests have been in very
remote locations.
Challenge:
Watch Cascade Lakes and eastern Oregon wetlands for possible
breeding. Determine annual regularity of breeding, if
any, in playas of Wallowa County.
